About Garden Theater Block

The Garden Theater Block is a one-block section in the Federal North Redevelopment Area on Pittsburgh’s Central Northside, rich with architectural gems from the turn of the 20th Century. With planning for the final phase of historic restoration and new construction underway, this iconic block will be complete for 21st Century living for 2023. A 5-story brick building will provide 46 apartment units over ground floor amenities and commercial space..

The new, mid-rise building will house 46 one, two and three bedroom living options. 6 W. North will be on the corner of W. North and Federal Street, connecting the Garden Theater and The Morton House. The first floor will feature a commercial space, fitness center, community lounge, and other shared amenities for the Block. The single 3-bedroom unit will feature a private roof terrace.

The Morton House, located at 1113-1115 Federal Street, gets its name from Mrs. Mary Morton who once owned this property in the late 19th century. Compromised structural integrity made rehabilitation of the original 3-story brick building infeasible, however, we are working with community stakeholders to thoughtfully reimagine a new building of similar size and scale that will integrate into the neighborhood fabric and use salvaged materials where feasible on this historic site. The 21st Century Morton House will include 10 modern 1-bedroom apartment units with 2 of those units offering ground floor accessibility. The ground floor will also provide bike storage and a dog wash station for all Garden Block residents.

FAQ

The Garden Theater will house an anchor commercial tenant such as a restaurant or other neighborhood amenity. The original lobby will be preserved and serve as an entry for the commercial space. Three unique studio apartments overlooking Allegheny Commons will occupy the second floor and be accessed from the new building.

Yes, all of the buildings are pet friendly. We asked for a $250 non-refundable deposit and a $35 monthly pet fee. There is a two pet maximum and no breed or weight restriction.

One parking lease with the neighboring parking garage (on Federal Street) will be provided with residential leases. On-site bike parking will also be provided.

West North and the Morton House will begin leasing late 2022 when construction is finished. The Bradberry is currently leasing and more information can be found on their website.
